JIS G3455 carbon steel pipes consist mainly of carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, silicon, chromium, and molybdenum. The carbon percentage is usually up to 0.25%, and manganese percentage between 0.30% and 1.10%. Phosphorus and sulfur percentages are low, usually less than 0.035%, for increased weldability and minimizing brittleness. Mechanical properties are tensile strengths of 370 MPa, yield strengths of 216 MPa, and elongation percentages of 30%, varying with grade. These pipes can perform in high-temperature conditions and are best suited for heat transfer applications.
